Starting on March 9, 2023 a 4–day music workshop took place at the Music Faculty of Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. A group of seven leading Czech jazz composers got together with the legendary Norwegian all-round composer Helge Sunde.
The main subject of the meeting was the new project Music for Lights & Shadows, in which Sunde serves as the musical director as well as one of the composers. The group discussed various musical and technical aspects of the project, but also learned a lot about Sunde’s approach to composition, music publishing, leading a large ensemble and music in general.
Official photographs were taken by the end of the workshop and more details were added to the project schedule for the upcoming months.
Music for Lights & Shadows is more than an hour-long mixture of music, picture and light now being created by the group of seven leading Czech jazz composers together with the iconic Norwegian composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Helge Sunde. This coherent series of pieces is based on pictures by contemporary Norwegian photographers, which will also be projected during four concerts in October 2023. The 18-piece Concept Art Orchestra is a foremost Czech big band, with a unique line-up for this occasion including a string quartet and electronics. Learn more about the project here (Czech only).
